What Is a Quartz Tube?

A quartz tube is a hollow cylinder of fused quartz glass used where ordinary glass fails: high-temperature furnace processes, semiconductor manufacturing, UV systems and corrosive chemical environments. Made from high-purity SiO₂, quartz tubes withstand continuous service around 1100–1200 °C, resist thermal shock from rapid heating and cooling, and remain chemically inert to nearly all acids.

Specifications

GKLQuartz supplies standard drawn tubing and custom tube assemblies. The table below shows the general ranges we work with; exact availability is confirmed per inquiry.

ParameterRange
Outer diameter (OD)[Confirm With Production — standard and large-diameter ranges on request]
Wall thickness[Confirm With Production]
LengthStandard and custom lengths; extended lengths by welding [Confirm maximum]
ToleranceDrawn tolerance standard; ground tolerances available for critical OD/ID [Confirm tolerance classes]
MaterialsJGS2 / JGS3 grades (see grade comparison)
Surface finishFire-polished (as-drawn), or ground/polished ends on request

Tube Types We Fabricate

  • Straight process tubes — cut to length, fire-polished ends
  • Flanged tubes — formed or fused flanges for mounting and O-ring seals
  • Bent and coiled tubes — controlled-radius bends and coils
  • Ported tubes and manifolds — welded side arms, gas ports and injectors
  • Heavy-wall tubes — for vacuum and mechanical-duty service

Manufacturing Process

Tubes start from drawn fused quartz tubing (see the tube drawing process), then are cut, bent, flanged or welded to your geometry, with fire polishing to remove micro-cracks from worked areas. Full workflow in our fabrication overview.

Applications

  • Semiconductor — diffusion, oxidation and CVD process tubes
  • Solar PV — doping, diffusion and annealing furnace tubes
  • Laboratory — combustion and high-temperature test tubes
  • Industrial — heater and thermocouple protection tubes; UV lamp envelopes

Customization

Send a drawing (PDF/DWG/DXF/STEP) or dimensions; we confirm manufacturability and quote. Prototype quantities welcome. We can also reverse-engineer replacement tubes from worn samples.

Quality Control

Each tube is checked for OD/ID/wall dimensions, length and visual defects before packing. CoC and dimensional reports available on request — see quality control.

FAQ

Can quartz tubes be customized?
Yes. Length, bends, flanges, ports and wall thickness are all customizable to drawing.

What is the maximum tube length?
Standard drawn lengths cover most needs; longer tubes can be produced by seamless welding. [Confirm maximum length with production]

Which grade should I choose?
JGS2 for optical clarity, JGS3 for general high-temperature industrial use — see the grade guide.

Quartz vs borosilicate tubes?
Quartz survives ~1100 °C and thermal shock; borosilicate cannot. See fused quartz properties.
